This question has perhaps crossed everyone's mind, regardless of religion, lifestyle, or background. A lonely figure, forced to face life's journey on her own, turns back in shock at an otherworldly presence. She represents us, especially younger generations so divided and lost in the madness of today's world that, despite being constantly connected, we feel more separated than ever. We live in a godless world, where there seems to be no higher purpose, divine plan, or guardian angel watching over us. And yet, we all encounter those small moments that stop us in our tracks and make us wonder: "Are you there, God?" Perhaps the most ludicrous aspect of this question is that we overlook the very mark of the design we carry every day.

The first person to backstab you will always be yourself. As modern humans, we instinctively blame the outside world for our misfortunes and reject those who betray us. Yet we often fail to recognize our own energy and vibration as a match for such behaviour. The societies and environments in which we grow up force us to adapt by disowning aspects of ourselves. What we shed to conform still lives within us like a shadow. Unforgiving, it demands to be acknowledged, influencing us towards actions that resemble self-sabotage. Perhaps we were never meant to inhabit those environments without first integrating all that we are.

We carry our past, our mistakes, our demons, and our shadows into everyday life. The length of our past reflects our experiences and bears testament to who we are in the present. It also serves as both a teacher and a warning for the future. Our past is not something to judge or reject, but something to acknowledge for what it is and celebrate for its unusual glow. Accepting what we have lived through, however ugly or distorted it may appear, offers a unique clarity into the present and what lies ahead. Understanding our past is instrumental to understanding ourselves and the world around us. The insights it offers are invaluable, helping us recognize the patterns we might otherwise repeat.

Who we are is often very different from the person we show to the world. We reveal different parts of ourselves depending on the people around us and the circumstances we find ourselves in. We call it social adaptation. We are even told not to let others see who we really are, lest they hurt us. This piece questions what happens when we split ourselves into multiple faces. Beneath our protective personas lie the bones of those who have endured trauma and pain. When these protectors appear too dark or harsh, another mask is born: inviting, harmless, even lovely. The outside world fails to recognize the distorted image beneath. Perhaps the harshest truth of this fragmentation is that the more masks we wear, the further we cast our hearts away.

We often take everything outside ourselves for granted while doing our best to integrate into and adapt to the external world. We may go to extreme lengths to change or deny our true selves simply to fit in. Some might even succeed, but just like the figure depicted here, looking as though you belong does not mean you can survive. Without the gills to breathe underwater, you will surely drown. As your inner shadows creep up, the mesmerizing world around you may keep you from realizing that you neither belong in the ocean nor understand it.

This piece explores the relationship between technology and tradition through Japanese symbolism and cyberpunk motifs. The technological boom of the past 30 years has surpassed our expectations, bringing both positive and negative consequences to everyday life. On the other side lies tradition: what grounds us, reminds us where we come from, and passes down values and morality. Tradition holds great beauty, yet requires care and attention to survive. How does it blend with technology? Is combining the two even possible? Today, their boundaries have become so blurred that we might believe tradition is successfully accompanying us on our journey towards progress. Yet wishful thinking alone cannot force two antagonistic concepts to become one.

Humans have sought enlightenment or communication with the divine for as long as we have existed. However, some lose their way. Even when following the light through teachings and prayers, hubris and subconscious shadows can lead people to commit acts of sacrilege. It is said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and the Deceiver or Demiurge does an impressive job of casting light through the most corrupted mediums. This piece invites you to question whether what you consider objectively good and just might, in fact, stem from a poisonous seed.

Enlightenment is a concept that has accompanied humanity for as long as we have contemplated our existence. From the ancients to the moderns, we have strived to understand the fabric of the universe, elevate our consciousness, and reach a divine state — be it enlightenment, Nirvana, ultimate peace, the Kingdom of Heaven, Valhalla, or something else entirely. We may disagree on when this state can be achieved, yet we often share an idea of what it looks like and what it demands of us. This piece explores the cost of pursuing such a noble goal. True enlightenment burns away the worldly self: the ego. Reconnecting with the divine matrix requires a union of mind and heart, and sacrifices that can feel like ripping out our very essence. The journey is painful, but it promises an end to the suffering of the ego.

Angelic figures are often associated with the Divine, especially in Abrahamic religions. We are led to believe that they embody morality and boundless kindness, compassion, and empathy. This piece calls into question the effects of such qualities. Although benevolence is a beacon of light and a divine virtue, when abused, misunderstood, or taken for granted, it may lead to the destruction of its source. A being whose kindness is absolute has neither the ability nor the choice to abandon it, and therefore continues to endure the surrounding malice until it breaks.

Life gives and takes constantly. It is beautiful, mesmerizing, compelling, and lovely, but also terrible, cruel, and unforgiving. These dimensions of our existence are neither good nor bad; they simply are. The fact that we are alive is too often taken for granted, or even regarded as a burden. Across centuries, ideologies that deny life have emerged from a misunderstanding of what it means to live. Those who continually reject life's darker aspects may provoke a mirrored response from the world around them. Here, the two kitsune associated with Inari in the Shintō religion act as fierce protectors, defending life rather than embodying aggression or danger. Their terrifying expressions are a consequence of human behaviour. Life will go on, whether we like it or not, and it will bite us until we accept it.

This piece directly criticizes a modern world that places cognition, the brain, and the mind above every other aspect of who we are, especially the heart. We are valued for our ability to think, remain objective, and ground ourselves in factual reality, while emotions are dismissed as obstacles to sound judgement. How beautiful it is to accumulate ideas, philosophize, and become so open-minded that our intellect seems boundless. Yet much fades into obscurity when success is measured by material accomplishments and tangible results. This overreliance on evidence of human greatness has a fatal weakness: the mind cannot govern without the heart, and a mind without a heart is no different from a machine. Our emotions guide our minds and are fundamental to finding true peace and success. Place a hand over your chest and ask yourself how large the hole remains, despite everything you have accomplished.

With the advent of modern technology, the internet, and AI, humanity has made it almost impossible to truly disappear. Throughout history, a select few artists, poets, composers, spiritual leaders, conquerors, and kings were granted a form of immortality. Today, we all leave a digital footprint. Ironically, one of humanity's greatest fears and mysteries — death — may have been overcome, though not as the ancients envisioned it. Our bodies remain mortal, but our digital traces may live on in the ether of the internet. The peace of having a past that eventually fades from public view is shattered when our lives remain exposed and open to judgement long after we leave this world. Christianity tells of the pale horseman who rides last to announce the end days. But what if we have already shot him down?
