Drowning

We often take everything outside ourselves for granted while doing our best to integrate into and adapt to the external world. We may go to extreme lengths to change or deny our true selves simply to fit in. Some might even succeed, but just like the figure depicted here, looking as though you belong does not mean you can survive. Without the gills to breathe underwater, you will surely drown. As your inner shadows creep up, the mesmerizing world around you may keep you from realizing that you neither belong in the ocean nor understand it.
